The Bank of England is offering a fantastic virtual work experience programme that will give the opportunity to find out what it’s like to work in a public sector institution which has been in existence for over 325 years.

The opportunity will comprise of a number of different virtual sessions spread across the 3.5 days, designed to help you understand what kind of work takes place in the Bank and provide you with new skills which you will be able to carry with you into the future.

 

You will have the opportunity to:

·       Learn about the Bank’s Mission and economic responsibilities

·       Find out more about career paths and personal career stories from Bank colleagues 

·       Discover the opportunities available to young people in the Bank

·       Engage in Speed Networking

·       Participate in group project work along with other students

·       Understand why Cyber Security is so important in the Bank and in everyday life

·       Identify what skills you have and how you can develop them

 

The Bank is especially looking for open-minded students from the South East Wales Norfolk, Leeds, Liverpool, Bradford, Birmingham and Glasgow who are interested in working in a high-profile financial institution or who are looking to find out more about the Bank of England. Students who have not previously had work experience and do not have access to other opportunities are especially encouraged to apply.

  • Be available 10:00 – 16:30 each day for the entirety of the placement (30th May – 2nd June).
  • Sessions will be virtual using the Microsoft Teams conferencing app so you will need access to a laptop/other personal device plus internet access throughout the week.

The Bank of England is the UK’s central Bank and is one of the most important economic institutions in the world, with thousands of employees helping to maintain monetary and financial stability for the good of the people of the UK. The Bank is responsible for a variety of different aspects of the UK’s economy including: CURRENCY: Printing the banknotes that everyone in the country uses to pay for things, making sure they are strong, attractive and hard to forge; BANKING: Working behind the scenes to make sure everyone can make electronic payments every second of the day; FIRM REGULATION: Making sure high street banks and insurance firms are safe and sound; and looking at the entire financial system to reduce risks and keep it safe, so that money flows to where it is needed most; and MANAGING THE ECONOMY: Setting the key interest rate in the economy called Bank Rate, which filters down into the interest rates offered when you put money into a savings account or when you take out a loan.
