FCDO Services is a core part of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), ensuring the overseas diplomatic network is operating securely. We provide a wide range of secure services for the FCDO and other UK government departments, public sector bodies and friendly foreign governments including designing and constructing secure government buildings, delivering diplomatic packages worldwide, providing digital solutions, safeguarding government tech, translation, and more.

We’re also home to UK National Authority for Counter Eavesdropping (UK NACE), the UK’s technical experts in detecting, countering and preventing technical attack. The teams at UK NACE guard against technical espionage, provide advice to the government and research cutting edge technology, – all to protect our nation’s secrets.

In this blended 3-day work experience placement, you'll learn more about what we do at FCDO Services and UK NACE.

Day one and two will be delivered online and will cover what happens on a day-to-day basis in some of our key departments. You'll get a behind the scenes look at the work we do, hearing from a range of speakers and apprentices, including our technical engineers who work in British Embassies across the world, cyber specialists, and project managers, just to name a few. You will also get the chance to hear from employees who live and work abroad to find out what it is like.

Day three will take place onsite at Hanslope Park, where you will find out more about its history, what life is like here and career opportunities. You will also get the opportunity to take part in some interactive workshops including some engineering STEM challenges, electronic bug hunt with UK NACE, mini drone flying and interview some of our apprentices.

During the work experience you will get involved in a range of online and face to face interactive activities including research, group work, planning and presenting that will help you further develop your interpersonal, team work and problem solving skills, the core skills we're looking for in our future employees.

Please Note: Applicants must be aged 14-19, able to attend both the virtual sessions, and travel to Hanslope Park for the in-person visit.
