A real insight into the Home Office, the government department working to build a safe, fair, and prosperous UK through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, fire, crime, drugs policy, immigration, and passports.

 This Work Insight will share first-hand, immersive experience of what it is like to be a Civil Servant in the Home Office, a high-profile, challenging, but rewarding government department.

Delivering our work is a team effort, and we rely on talented people with a wide range of skills and experience. Through this placement, you’ll have an opportunity to learn from several of the teams and professions that help us deliver outcomes to improve the lives of millions, including operational commands, intelligence, and project delivery.

We can also arrange networking opportunities for students with particular interests, for example, with colleagues from Home Office Legal Advisers for those studying law, with our Science, Technology Research and Analysis Group for students interested in STEM subjects or Digital, Data and Technology professionals for students with a passion for computing cyber or AI.


Join us for a 5-day work experience which will offer shadowing opportunities across multiple business areas, first-hand experiences of the customer journey, and activities to boost career readiness, include development of interview, presentation, and CV writing skills.

This opportunity is open to students from Liverpool and within the age range of 16 -19 years old.

Spaces are limited to 10 and, if needed, we will open a reserve list in the event of drop off. 

You will be required to be able to travel to the office

for the full 5 days of placement.
