Julia Angeles
Julia Angeles is a partner and investment manager at Baillie Gifford. She has almost 15 years’ experience finding and investing in exceptional growth companies that are shaping the world of tomorrow.
Julia co-founded Baillie Gifford’s first thematic investment strategy, Health Innovation, and leads the firm’s first all-female fund management team. It was her passion for the transformation taking place in healthcare and desire to support innovative companies that are working to bring substantial improvements to human health and healthcare systems that led to the establishment of the strategy in 2018. Julia believes that over the next 10 years healthcare systems around the world will experience monumental change and will witness a move away from reactive medicine to a world where prevention and cure will be an integral part of human health, driven by the convergence of biology and technology.
Julia puts innovation at the centre of everything she does and is responsible for many of Baillie Gifford’s academic partnerships, which underly the firm’s differentiated approach to investment research and outlook on the world. She is passionate about inspiring the next generation of investors and regularly arranges for high profile thinkers to speak to investment teams.
Julia also co-manages Baillie Gifford’s International Growth strategy, which invests in a concentrated portfolio of high growth companies. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Aarhus, Denmark and speaks fluent English, Russian and Danish. Before joining Baillie Gifford in 2008, Julia worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company advising firms in Denmark, Russia and Hungary.
