Murray MacKenzie
My career has spanned hospitality, retail and now Telco. I began my working career as a full time waiter/barman before taking on responsibility for managing a restaurant. I realised this wasn’t the career I wanted to pursue, largely due to the work life balance I had, so I took the decision to take a step back and work in a call centre as a stop gap. This call centre work began a 16 year in Tesco where I progressed through various junior management roles before finding my calling in fraud prevention. I pursued this through retail, into banking for 4 years, before becoming responsible for all fraud in Tesco Group. In February of this year I took the decision to change my path and moved to Virgin Media O2 as a Director of Transformation. In this role I’ve become accountable for all fraud in the organisation and the transformation of our ways of working to deliver a future proof capability. Throughout my career I’ve actively pursued mentoring opportunities with junior colleagues to support their career development and have sought out mentoring for myself so that I can continue to grow and learn.
